character - A Boat Nowhere

Kien is the stranger that came into the village in the beginning of the story. At first, he was a very dirty, skinny, poor little boy. When the grandfather allowed him to stay in the village, he started to be very mean. Mai was disgust at his insulting, rude, unfriendly, and cold manner. He will always be misbehaving and insulting about the village, villager, and Thay Van Chi which made people made, especially Mai. However, from the point where Kien helped Big Tam, all the villager's (except Mai) attitude toward Kien changed. They served him with great food and nice clothes to wear. He no longer looked like a beggar. He didn't brag about anything, but Mai's jealousy made her think that he's two-faced. Later on, Mai finds out that Kien was actually a nice guy but it's just that he didn't know how to be nice. On the outside, I think that Kien changed, but originally, I think he had a warm heart inside. Kien learned that you need a family or home that you belong, and how to love a new group of people.
